The Machs from Losiná near Pilsen have been beekeepers for several generations. Family members take care of almost 200 bee colonies, sometimes in very unusual places throughout the country. They monitor how the bees are doing with cameras and other software developed by IT company owner itself Pavel Mach.

We are honored to promote the MZE CR project No. “QK22020324” Valuation of genomic diversity of honey bees in relation to the health status of their populations in the Czech Republic.
We cooperate with the Faculty of Agriculture of the Mendel University in Brno in a project to study the variability of bee populations in the Czech Republic. To implement it, we collected samples of bees from various districts of the Czech Republic in the course of the late summer and autumn of 2023, in which we have habitats as part of the Rooftopbees project (www.vcelynastrechach.cz).

Unfortunately, it has been confirmed that yellow-legged invasive alien species of Vespa velutina has reached Czech Republic, probably in the truck from southern Europe. There is already in place an eradication plan in order to prepare cooperation plan for the invasion. Beekeepers will monitor closely occurrence of this Asian hornet and report it to the Nature Conversation Agency of the Czech Republic.
